Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! We had an exciting retreat with the Board of Directors to help move forward the priorities of the organization. The Retreat held from 31st October to 3rd November 2023 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Some interesting highlights from the event were;
ANPA’s MOU with Rotary International District 9110 was extended for an additional five years. This district will no longer exist but will now comprise of Districts 9111 and 9112 that encompass Lagos and Ogun States. We have made contact with the DG in 9142 headquartered in Ebonyi State, which includes District 9142 and is made up of Clubs in Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.
We were graced by the presence of Dr. Sanjeev Aurora at our retreat. The Board unanimously agreed to support an ECHO Office in Nigeria led by a Coordinator and approved funds to hire staff to effectively coordinate our activities regarding ECHO. This will help in educating our on-ground teams in quality and effective healthcare delivery.
We have two new Honorary Members; Dr. Wole Kukoyi and Dr. Ibrahim Wada. Congratulations to those who have served and supported the organization!
We were updated by the Chapter Chairs on the wonderful work going on in their chapters. It was humbling to see all the work that is going on and to share best practices. Going forward, to assist in preparation, Chapters will submit updates about their activities so the ANPA Webmaster can assist in making the information accessible for them with less of a lift. All upcomingEvents at all ANPA Chapter will now be posted to the Upcoming Events page on the ANPA website. This will also help prevent event scheduling conflicts and provide an overview of upcoming ANPA National and Chapter events.
We also had our Inaugural White Party at the Board Retreat. It was a wonderful connection time for members and their families and was a huge success. It was hosted by M&J Event Services. The experience was so wonderful that the Chair of the Board of Directors, in his Speech, declared it would become a staple for subsequent Board meetings. This was both seconded and approved!
The next Board retreat will be in Palm Beach, Florida from 31st October to 3rd November 2024. We encourage you to make sure you do not miss it! It will be a great way to connect and engage with teammates.
In added information, the current DG, Ifeyinwa Ekezie, has agreed to provide Stop The Bleed training as a Club benefit to roll into their membership training, with over 140 Clubs just for that District. This is a highly welcomed addition to help address the commonest, preventable causes of death and increase engagement.
On behalf of my Team and ANPA, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas in advance and a Happy New Year in 2024.
Dr. Chinyere Anyaogu, National President, Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas
