ANPA SCD ECHO: Hydroxyurea Utilization in Sickle Cell Disease
Healthcare workers in underserved communities need to make prompt decisions with limited resources and expertise. Project ECHO® provides a virtual platform where medical knowledge is shared. Nigeria accounts for 100,000-150,000 newborns living with SCD annually (33% of the global burden of SCD) where sickle cell trait (SCT) is present in 25% of the population. A large number (50-70%) die before age 5. Over 650 children die per day in sub-Saharan Africa from SCD. ANPA has initiated a SCD education to improve the knowledge and practice of SCD management among healthcare workers in Nigeria.
