ANPA AT 25!
Dr. Acho Emeruwa and I met at the ACOG (American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists) convention. He intimated that there were many Nigerian physicians in the Americas and suggested that an organization be formed to help promote a healthier Nigeria and be a social network for Nigerian physicians in the Americas. Several conversations ensued and ANPA was born. As an ANPA Founding Member, I was privileged to have served on the early ANPA Board for several years. With the backing of ANPA, I led a very successful Medical Mission to Abagana.
ANPA meant and continues to mean so much to me and my family. The inaugural ANPA convention in Anaheim, in 1994, was a memorable celebration of family and the medical profession. Our oldest daughter, Dr. Uzoma Ezekwueche Owunna, served as one of the co-founders of SANPA (Student ANPA). When disability struck, ANPA listened and made the necessary adjustment to accommodate my membership. ANPA is an association with a heart. Here’s to the next generation!
