It is with great pleasure that I am writing to report that the inaugural meeting of the Florida Chapter of ANPA , held on February 21st, 2015 in Ocala Florida was extremely successful and productive. The event which was sponsored by Mr. Daniel Odigie and Mr. Ahmed Stephens of the MD Capital and Wealth management had an impressive turn out in excess of 30 attendees.

Anpa florida

Dr. Olatunji Olambiwonnu gave us an interesting review of the history of ANPA and it’s mission. Dr. Austin Osemeka followed with a concise review of the ANPA by-laws, information needed to start our local chapter and plans for the up-coming convention to be held in Orlando Florida this July. Attendees also watched videos on the history of ANPA and the 2014 national convention in Anaheim California.

This was followed by the election of officials. The following members were elected into office:

Patron – Olatunji Olambiwonnu, MD ( The Villages, FL)

Chairperson – Rosemary Oraedu, MD ( Ocala, FL)

Chairperson Elect – Lawrence Adu, MD ( Gainesville, FL)

Secretary –  Chris Mbaeri, MD ( West Palm Beach, FL)

Treasurer – Ifeyinwa Umeh, MD ( Orlando, FL)

Ex-officio – Lillian Okpaleke, Pharm D ( Tampa, FL)

Attendees were present from all over the state of Florida and several had travelled from as far as South Florida to attend. There was tremendous enthusiasm and several attendees signed up and paid their annual dues immediately. Attendees were able relax and enjoy the elegant dining experience courtesy of our hosts.

I would like to thank Dr. Olambiwonnu for his vision, determination and guidance during the launching of our chapter. We also greatly appreciate the support from  the national executive, Dr. Mike Etomi and Dr. Austin Osemeka who have been very instrumental in this process. Lastly I would like to thank everyone who took time from their busy schedules to attend this meeting. The diversity of the attendees was very encouraging. In addition to physicians we had a number of pharmacists, nurse practitioners, residents and other allied health professionals.

Our newly elected officials look forward to working closely with the national body to prepare for the national convention. We are optimistic that we will keep the momentum going and we will maintain a strong and vibrant chapter. We hope to have our next meeting in Orlando by April or May. We look forward to making a difference here in our community and back home in Nigeria. We are confident that working together there is no limit to what we can achieve!

Sincerely,

Rosemary Oraedu, MD
